This is a one session pilot 2009 - 2010

Outcomes

  • To deliver carbon reduction – focusing on transition and Maths/Science
  • To support climate change across the curriculum – values, attitudes and lifestyle

 

Value to schools

  • Each school will acquire equipment
  • Each primary school will have the equivalent of 5 days’ staff cover to enable planning meetings
  • to help secure the position of climate change/sustainable development education within the school’s curriculum to ensure the sustainability of the project

Outputs (suggested)

Before Christmas
  • CAT  in each school to introduce tools for developing Sustainable Development/climate change across the curriculum
  • WWF training day for P7?/ S1 Maths/Science Teachers to introduce carbon measurement techniques
  • Planning sessions with individual schools
  • Creation of a baseline survey for staff and pupils to assess knowledge, values and skills before any changes are made.
January -  June
  • Carbon reduction programmes carried out and presented in a variety of Mathematical / Scientific formats across a range of subject areas.
  • Work to be shared by the youngsters during their induction days at Millburn in June (and at the start of the new session) through Maths/Science
  • Pupils to seek ways to share their findings with their peers and the wider school community
  • Project process will be shared with other schools through Eco-Schools Fora, Global Teacher Network meetings and other events.
  • Evaluation – evidence of change in behaviour, attitudes for the long term?
